Kirit Shakti Peeth is among the 51 Shakti Peeth of Maa Sati. It is said that, the crown or headdress of Maa Sati fell here, when lord Vishnu in order to relieve lord Shiva from grief of losing his wife Sati, used his ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ to incise Maa Sati Body. Then, at the place of fall of crown, this temple was constructed. Kirit Shakti Peeth is situated in Murshidabad district West Bengal. Here the idol of Maa Sati is called as ‘Vimla’ and the lord Shiva is worshipped as ‘Sangbarta’.
Kiriteshwari temple is among the most visited temple of Maa Sati in India and devotees every year in million numbers flock to this part of country to offer their prayers and also to take blessings from the ‘maa Durga’. Looking from outside, the color of this temple is red (made of red stone) and top part is like dome type, but little bit more elongated type. On the sides, there are gates, but closed by the stone meshes those acts as the light opening and makes a good courtyard. Inside the temple is the idol of Goddesses Vimla which is covered by the veil all the time. The color of the idol is red, because it is made of red stone and it washed and given bath on every Asthami of Durga Puja.
