2020 will see a flurry of great biopics and “Maidaan” is certainly one of the most awaited of them. Starring Ajay Devgan, the movie is based on the life and journey of Indian football team’s most successful coach Syed Abdul Rahim. It’s Devgan’s second biopic of the year after “Bhuj: The Pride of India” which will be released in August this year. “Maidaan” is slated to hit the screens on December 11, 2020. Apart from Devgan in the lead role, the film stars Gajraj Rao, Priyamani and Nitanshi Goel.

“Maidaan” is set in the “golden times” of national football (1952 to 1962) when Rahim was the coach as well as the manager of the Indian national football team. A sports lover himself, Devgan is extremely excited to don the character of Rahim on screen and took to social media to express his thrill about the opportunity to play the character of the great sports personality. The film makers have already released couple of posters of the movie. One of them shows Devgan playing football in mud with a few players. The other one shows him standing upright holding football with his entire squad behind him.

“Maidaan” has been directed by leading television commercial director Amit Ravindrenath Sharma. The story is penned by Arunava Joy Sengupta, Akash Chawla and Saiwyn Quadras. The film is produced jointly by some of the biggest production houses of Bollywood, including Zee STUDIOS AND Bayview Projects LLP. Tushar Kanti Roy is the cinematographer behind “Maidaan” while Amit Trivedi has composed music for the film. The background score is produced by Mayank Mehra and Sidhant Mago. “Maidaan” is distributed by Zee Studios. The editing of the film is done by Dev Rao Jadhav. “Maidaan” will be a film that will appeal to not only the football lovers of the country but also universally to all the sports lovers in India.
