The day where all the youth of Unite
There are many days declared by the government of India in the memory of various people who lead the society to a new direction. The National Youth Day is also one of such day declared by the government. Birthday of the great person Swami Vivekananda, January 12th is celebrated as National Youth Day. In 1984, government has declared this particular day as National youth day and it is being celebrated from the very next year that is 1985 onwards.
The main reason of declaring this particular day as National youth day is it was felt by everyone that the ideals with which Swami Vivekananda lived, followed could be a great inspiration to all the youth of India.
This particular day falls in the month of Paush on Krishna Saptami, as per Hindu calendar, which comes on different dates in the English calendar but generally falls only in the month of January. Disciples and great followers of Swami mainly at the places like Ramakrishna mission, follow different practices like offering Manglaarati, worship Swami by singing devotional songs, homa, meditations, Sandhya arati, etc.
At a number of places various social activities are also organized which include blood donation camps, helping poors by providing various required items, help needy students providing education items and many more.
National youth day is celebrated in all the schools and colleges allover India with processions, speeches, music, youth convocations, Seminars, yogasanas, presentations, essay writing competitions, recitations and many other. On this occasion, people from different places participate in various activities allover India promoting preaches of Vivekananda, in the fields of art, education, culture.
Swami Vivekananda’s teachings are published in ‘The Complete works of Swami Vivekananda’ in nine volumes, which are also distributed to various places on this day.
