Various thinkers, philosophers and religious leaders have great influence on the culture of India. Being a unique combination the importance of Swami Vivekananda is huge and considering his contribution Swami Vivekananda Jayanti is celebrated.
Birthday of great legend Swami Vivekananda is celebrated as Swami Vivekananda Jayanti , which falls in the month of Paush on the seventh day of Krishnapaksha which is Saptami, the seventh day after full moon day in the Hindu traditional calendar. The date for English calendar varies for every year as it is celebrated according to the tithi and nakshatras.
Various people celebrate this particular day mostly celebrated in all the schools and colleges. People participate in various kinds of activities in the schools or colleges on the eve of Swami Vivekananda Jayanti. Few activities which are regularly organized in the institutes are Quizzes, essay writings, paintings, debates, etc.
Many of the youth involve themselves in serving the needy and the other activities where their attention is needed. Some kinds of meetings and sessions are also organized such as preaches and thoughts of Swami Vivekananda are delivered to the young individuals so that they are motivated and inspired by them.
There are lot of missions like Ramakrishna where Swami was worshiped and other activities like Yoga and meditation were followed and in some places they also worship the idols of Swami Vivekananda offering manglaarati. There are a lot of social groups also that hold various social activities such as blood donation camp, charity activities of various items such as education items to needy children, food and cloth distribution to poor and needy people, help to handicaps and blind people, charity activities for orphans and many more.
Swami Vivekananda’s teachings are published in various books and they are distributed to people on this day.
