Himachal Pradesh University is a state-owned university in Shimla and it was founded by the State Government in 1970. HP University is affiliated and approved by the University Grant Commission and NAAC. The university campus is constructed over the land of 200 acres. Located in Shimla, 5km away from the town of summer hill. This institution is wholly financed by the government of Himachal Pradesh and the university grants commission. The university works with the motto “those who are armed with knowledge are skilful”. The establishment of the university was passed in 22 July 1970 by the Himachal Pradesh legislative assembly currently affiliated by UGC, NAAC, AIU. The university aims to provide easily accessible system of education & learning through highly facilitated education inputs like practical classes, library facilities with wide range of books etc.
The Himachal Pradesh University is well known for the ambience that it provides for the development of education and spread of knowledge. The students can take up various courses in arts, science and other inter disciplinary courses. The university offers undergraduate and post graduate studies. It is a public open university and is among the best universities of India. There are many colleges and institutions under the affiliation of this university which adds to the education facility.
The university provides various UG, and PG programs in various streams like Medical, Nursing, Technical, Management, etc. It also provides a learning center that provides training and coaching of competitive examinations to the students belonging to the ST/SC/OBC/minority category.

- Full-Time B.Tech & M.Tech in Information Technology, Computer Science Engineering, Civil Engineering specializations
- B.Sc in Laboratory, Radiology & Imaging, Anesthesia & Operation Theatre Techniques
- The other courses include B.Ed, MBA, MCA, M.Sc, LLM, BDS, MBBS, MD, MS
Eligibility Criteria
- Admission to the B.Tech and M.Tech courses are decided by the JEE Main and GATE Score
- Admission in MBA is granted on the basis of the valid score in the HPU MAT conducted by the Himachal Pradesh University
- Admission in MBBS and BDS is decided by the entrance exam NEET UG
- Admission in MD and MDS is given on the basis of performance in the NEET PG and NEET MDS
- Admission to all other courses are decided by the entrance test conducted by the university
Scholarship
- Scholarships are provided to the deserving students belonging to the BPL (Below Poverty Line).
- The university provides scholarships to 10 Students who performed well in the academic sessions and involved in cultural activities through Cultural Activists Scholarships scheme.

The university provides a placement and training department to support and assist students for the campus interview by organizing mock tests, group discussions, seminars.
