The University of Lucknow is a university in the city of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. The university is affiliated to University Grants Commission; Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU); Association of Indian Universities (AIU); Distance Education Council (DEC). Other accreditations include National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC); National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE); Bar Council of India (BCI). The University has a new campus located in Jankipuram, Lucknow where Faculties of Law, Business Tourism have been established.
The University of Lucknow grew out of the prestigious Canning College, Lucknow, founded in 1867 by Raja Dakshinaranjan Mukherjee with the motto “A century of leading generation to light through learning” and also grew out of King George's Medical College and the Isabella Thoburn College. The development of the University started with liberal backing from the Taluqdars and the Government and in twenty five years, the University had built itself as a regarded seat of adapting in the nation and was uniquely renowned for the instructing of English Literature. Recently, the University has started offering on-campus jobs to students in need. The faculty of law organizes an inter-semester moot court competition every year. Student politics are quite active in the campus. In 2012, the High Court once stayed an election for not following Lyngdoh Committee Guidelines. It plays an important role in spreading education to the masses of India.
In 2020, Lucknow University is ranked at 22nd position among the top public universities in the country by India Today. There are a total number of 9 faculties i.e, faculty of arts, Unani, Ayurveda, Engineering & Technology, Commerce, Education, Fine Arts, Law, and Science. It has 15 UG programs, 67 PG programs, 179 affiliated colleges, 16 centers.

Eligibility Criteria
- Admission to B.Tech is decided by the qualified marks in the UPJEE exam
- Admission to all other UG courses are granted on the basis of marks in the entrance exam conducted by the Lucknow University
- Admission to MBA is granted on the basis of marks obtained in the CAT followed by GD, PI
- Admission to Ph.D is decided by the qualified marks in UGC NET/CSIR NET
- For all other PG programs, the university conducts an entrance exam.
