The Kurukshetra University was established on 11 January 1956 in Kurukshetra in Haryana, India. The University received Grade 'A' rating in the 2009 National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grading. It is affiliated to undergraduate programs and postgraduate programs. The Department of Sanskrit was the first and the only department in the university when it was inaugurated by India's first president, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Its campus is spread over 400 acres. There are 51 subjects that are taught to the students in the university. There are few subjects that are started and inaugurated by great personalities in its early days. In the convocation of the university personalities like Mother Teresa also visited.
