The Central University of Kashmir was set up in March 2009 and Prof. Abdul Wahid Qureshi was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of the University. The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission and accredited by NAAC. It provides courses under UG, PG, and Doctoral programs in various streams like Arts, Science, Technology, Management, and Education. It has 9 constituent schools namely School of Engineering & Technology, School of Social Sciences, School of Business Studies, School of Education, School of Life Sciences, School of Media Studies, School of Languages, School of Physical & Chemical Sciences, and School of Legal Studies.

Eligibility Criteria
- Admission in B.Tech is granted on the basis of a valid score in the JEE(Mains)
- Admission in other UG courses are granted on the basis of a valid score in the CUCET examination
- Candidates seeking admission in M.Tech need to clear the GATE/UGC NEt/JEST examination
- Admission in other PG courses required a valid score in the CUCET exam
- The entrance exam for Ph.D. and M.Phil is GATE/NET JRF/UGC NET followed by an interview

Top recruiters visited the university are PNB MetLife, INDI Design, Axis Bank, Earth Infrastructure Ltd., HDFC, ITC, Decathlon sports, and many more. The placement percentage is 50-60 percent with an average salary package of 3.6 Lakh per annum.
