Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (formerly known as Garhwal University) is a public university located at Srinagar town in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand state in northern India. Named after Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, the university is a residential cum affiliating with jurisdiction over Garhwal district of the region. It is arranged on the banks of the waterway Alaknanda in the mid-Himalayas. The University was established under the provisions of Uttar Pardesh State Universities Act on 1.12.1973 and the Act come in force w.e.f. 1.12.1973. The H.N. Bahuguna Garhwal University has to be given a lot of credit for the development of higher education in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

With its Headquarters at Srinagar practically 108 K.M. from Rishikesh along the Delhi-Niti National Highway, Birla Campus at Srinagar, BGR Campus set on tempting mountain slants at Pauri and SRT Campus at Badshahi Thaul in the midst of thick pine woods. Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University was founded as a state university in 1973 and then it has been converted to the Central University by the Central Universities Act 2009 on 15th January 2009. The university provides various UG, PG, and Doctoral level courses in the field of Law, Engineering, Arts, Science, etc. The university consists of 121 affiliated institutes in seven districts of Uttarakhand. HNBGU is approved & recognized by the University Grant Commission, AICTE, PCI, and NAAC.

- Full-Time BA and MA in Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Anthropology, Defence and Strategic Studies, Ancient Indian History Culture and Archaeology specializations
- Full-Time B.Sc and M.Sc in Computer Science, Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, statistics subjects
- B.Tech in Computer Science & Engg, Instrumentation Engg, Electronics & Communication Engg. specializations
- The Research programs include M.Phil in English, Environmental Plant Biology, and Ph.D. in all streams
- PG Diploma in Business Administration, Company Administration, Yoga, Rural Technology, Human Rights, Environmental Economics for the duration of 1 year
- The other courses are B.Pharm, B.Ed, BBA, MBA, MCA, M.Pharm, M.Ed
Eligibility Criteria
- Admission in B.Tech is granted on the basis of JEE Main marks
- Admission in all other UG courses are given on the basis of merit in the qualifying exam
- Admission in PG programs is decided by the valid marks in the entrance test conducted by the university
- Admission in M.Phil and Ph.D. is granted on the basis of UGC NET score
