The Central University of Kerala which is located in Kasaragod, a district of Kerala, was set up in 2009 by the Central Universities Act 2009. Dr. Jancy James was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of the university. The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission and it comprises 12 Schools that cover 20 departments. The names of these Schools are School of Biological Science, Global Global Studies, Physical Sciences, Languages & Comparative Literature, Social Sciences, Earth Science Systems, School of Legal Studies, Medical & Public Health, Business Studies, Cultural Studies, Education, and School of Economics. It provides UG, PG, Diploma & Certificate, and Doctoral level courses in various streams.

- Bachelor of Arts in International Relations specialization
- M.A in English & Comparative Literature, Linguistics & Language Technology, Hindi & Comparative Literature, Public Administration and Policy Studies, International Relations & Political Science, Malayalam specializations
- M.Sc in Zoology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Genomic Science, Geology/ Mathematics, Botany, Physics, Yoga Therapy specializations
- Other PG courses are MSW, M.Ed, LLM, MPH, MBA, M.Com, PG Diploma, and Ph.D
Eligibility Criteria
- Admission in BA is given on the basis of merit base and 10+2 with a minimum of 50%
- Admission in all PG courses is decided on the basis of a valid score in the CUCET exam conducted by the university
- Candidates seeking admission in Ph.D. need to clear UGC NET/JRF and a personal interview
- Applications for admission in all the courses are accepted online.
Scholarship
Students belonging to ST/SC, economically weak background can get support and scholarship from e-Grantz provided by the Kerala Government. Indira Gandhi Scholarship program also supports Single Girl Child for PG programs.

- The university has two air-conditioned libraries with a large collection of books, journals.
- It provides a Student Counselling Center in order to support students emotionally, personally, educationally.
