Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology came into existence in 1987 as a regional Engineering Institute. In 2002, the Government of India changed its status and declared it as the National Institute of Technology. The Ministry of Human Resource Development has assigned it as “Institute of National Importance” in 2007. It offers various courses under UG, PG, and Doctoral programs. It is also known as NITJ(National Institute of Technology Jalandhar). NITJ has 15 departments in BioTechnology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, etc.
NITJ Courses

- B.Tech/B.E/M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering
- M.Sc in Physics, Chemistry and Biology specializations for 2 years
- MBA in Humanities & Management for 2 years and PGDM for 1 year in Humanities & Management and Biotechnology
- Ph.D. in all departments of the Institute
Eligibility Criteria
- Earlier, the admission in B.Tech was based on the entrance exam AIEEE. After 2012, the admission criteria have changed and admission is decided on the basis of a valid score in the JEE (Mains) examination.
- Candidates seeking admission in M.Tech are required to appear for GATE examination followed by group discussion and interview
- Admission in M.Sc is granted on the basis of a valid score in IIT JAM.
- Candidates need to clear CAT/MAT/CMAT/GMAT for admission to MBA
