Dwarkadheesh Temple dedicated to lord Krishna is one of the most visited temples in Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. It is located in the eastern part of Mathura near the Yamuna River. The temple was built in 1814 by Seth Gokul Das Parikh who was the treasurer of the estate of Gwalior. Today the Dwarkadheesh Mandir is administered by the followers of the Vallabhacharya section.
The temple is known for its architectural splendour and displays rich and vibrant local art and aesthetics. The temple boasts of amazing structural design and beautiful paintings coupled with excellent carvings. The main shrine in the Dwarkadheesh Mandir enshrines the stunning idol of Lord Krishna flanked by Radha and accompanied by Lord Balaram and other deities.
The festivals of Holi, Janmashtami and Deepavali are celebrated with great vigour in this temple. The whole temple is decorated with flowers and entire setting exudes splendour and grandeur during the festivals. At the beginning of the rainy season, during the month of Shravan, a very elaborate swing festival is held here. Lakhs of devotees assemble here to attend the festival and to receive the blessings from the Lord. Janmashtami is also the major festival that is celebrated with great enthusiasm in the temple.
