Many times the dates and days confuse people. Somewhat same happens in the days of 26th January, the Republic day of India and 15th August which is the Independence Day of India. To clear the confusion between both of these days, one has to go back to the past and check the historical events from which these days have got importance.
Difference between Republic Day & Independence Day?
The 15th August- Independence Day of India
Before the Independence of India, It was a huge area ruled by the British Government and all the area was under various kingship. After the Second World War the British government decides to free India, but there was a problem between Congress and Muslim League and hence the last Viceroy Mr Mountbatten, decided to part it in two countries and hence the India and Pakistan partitioned. The both countries had to pass through huge trauma as communal riots spread during this period that took have thousands of lives. After than the princely states were united with the union of India and hence the India came into existence as a sovereign country. The pact of freedom between the Viceroy and Congress leaders on the 14th August night after 12.00 PM so the date was changed and India was pronounced the freedom on 15th August, 1947.
The 26th January- Republic Day of India
Till India was under the British rule, it was governed by the Government of India act 1935, but as now India was Independent, the act needed to change and hence a constitutional framework was very much important. In the year 1947 the constitutional draft committee was formed under the presidency of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. The committee presented the first draft of the committee on November 4. However, the final draft was presented in 1949 and on 24th January 1950, the assembly signed the draft which was presented in Hindi as well as English language. It was decided to bring the new constitution in force from 26th January, 1950. The day of 26th January was important as on the same day in 1930 the congress had pronounced Purna Swaraj. Hence on 26th January, the constitution of India was brought in force and complete framework of the governance was stated in it. According to it there is the supreme authority with the President and the functional authority is to the Prime Minister.
So the 15th August is the Independence Day of India, while 26th January is the Republic Day of India.
