The Republic Day of the biggest democratic country
There are various days in the History of India that have great relevance. The 26th January is one of such important days. It is the day of paramount importance for the Union of India and democracy as the base of this, republic was established on this day. In the year 1950 on 26th January this biggest democracy had accepted the largest constitution of the world.
The Need of Constitution: After the independence on 15th August 1947, the Government of India act 1935 which was used by the British rulers to govern India was not fit to carry on and hence it was much important to have perfect framework and hence after some days of independence the constitution drafting committee was formed with expert members and under the presidency of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. The committee offered its draft on November 4 but was sent for revision. The final draft of the committee was presented and on 24th January 1950 the assembly signed it.
How it came into effect? However, in the year 1930 on 26th January, the congress had declared the demand of Purna Swaraj and to commemorate that day, members chose to bring the constitution in effect from 26th January. Hence the constitution of Independent India came into effect from 26th January 1950. The final draft of the constitution drafting committee was presented in Hindi and English language.
The Protocol: After the constitution was adopted certain protocol came into existence and as per that the first president of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad took oath of his position. The Prime Minister went to lay his wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate to pay his respect to those brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for this country. The president then directly moved to the Irwin stadium to unfurl the tri-colour national flag and take the salute of Indian army. From this day, only these all protocols are followed. However, with the passage of time there are also a few changes made. After the flag hoisting and a parade of army there are also many cultural programs organized that display the cultural heritage of the country. Those who have done some good social work or work of bravery, are also given awards and prizes on this day.
Being a National holiday all the government offices and schools observe the holiday. Many private organizations are also not working on this day. However, in every city, there are a number of cultural and social functions are organized.
