Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya was the first music university in India and it was set up by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 1956. The university is currently located in Khairagarh, Rajnandgaon district, Chhattisgarh, India. It was under the authority of the Madhya Pradesh Government but after the separation of Charrisgarh from MP, It operated under the authority of the Chhattisgarh Government. The university was named after the daughter, Indira Devi,  of the then king Maharaja Birendra Bahadur Singh. The university is approved & recognized by the University Grant Commission and one of the members of the Association of Indian Universities. It offers courses at UG, PG, Diploma, and Doctoral level in the field of Music, Arts, and Dance. The university consists of 21 departments and 29 affiliated colleges.

• The UG courses consist of Bachelor of Performing Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, B.Voc (Design)
• The PG courses consist of Master of Fine Arts (Painting, Sculpture, Graphics), MA in Theater,
• The Doctoral courses consist of Doctor of Literature, Ph.D. in Music

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates seeking admission to BFA and BPA must have completed Higher Secondary from a recognized board
• Candidates seeking admission in MFA must have completed graduation in Fine Arts from a recognized university
• Candidates seeking admission in the Doctoral program must have a master’s degree with 50% aggregate.

• The university consists of a library with 44000+ books, 183 Theses, 2000+ journals, 97 manuscripts, 300 painting picture plates, 690 art exhibitions.
• A musical program ‘Shruti Mandal’ is conducted by the university every week that gives the opportunity for students to show their talent on the stage.
• It consists of an art gallery that has all the folk and classical musical instruments.
