Karnataka Veterinary, Animal, and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU) which is situated at Nandi Nagar in Bidar was established by the government of Karnataka on 23rd February 2004. Prof. R.N. Sreenivas Gowda was the first Vice-Chancellor of this university. The main aim of the university is to provide all the resources for the development of higher learning in the field of Veterinary, Animal, and Fisheries Sciences. There are eight constituent colleges out of which 5 Veterinary Colleges in Bengaluru, Bidar, Shimoga, Hassan, Gadag, 2 Dairy Science Colleges in Bengaluru, Gulbarga, and a Fisheries College in Mangalore. This university functions keeping in mind the slogan “Farmers Friendly and Rural Oriented” for the advancement and improvement of the farming sector in the State.
KVAFSU Courses
The courses are given below:
- Full-Time B.Tech for 4 years in Dairy Science
- Bachelor of Fisheries Science and Veterinary Science
- M.Tech in Dairy Microbiology, Dairy Technology, and Dairy Chemistry
- Ph.D. in Dairy Science, Fisheries Science, and Veterinary
- The other courses include MBA, Master of Veterinary Science, Master of Fisheries Science
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates seeking admission to the UG, PG, and Ph.D. courses must have completed higher secondary, graduation, and post-graduation from an authorized university.
- Admission to UG programs are decided by the scored marks in the entrance exam conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority
- Admission to PG programs is done on the basis of secured marks in the qualifying examination.
- For admission in MBA, candidates need to face group discussion and personal interview round.
- For Ph.D. admission, candidates are required to clear a written exam conducted by the university followed by the personal interview
Scholarship
Students involved in the PG and Ph.D. courses are eligible for the scholarship through the University Resident Merit Scholarship program. Students belonging to the ST/SC and other minorities sections can also take the advantage of scholarship schemes of State and Central Government.
