Karnataka Folklore University (also known as Karnataka Janpada Vishwavidyalaya) was inaugurated by the government of Karnataka in the Haveri district in 2011. The state-owned university is recognized by the University Grant Commission and provides opportunities for higher studies & research of folklore. The university is situated at a distance of 37 km from the Hubballi Junction in Haveri District, Karnataka, and the nearest airport is Hubballi Airport (47 km from the university campus). The university provides a wide range of courses in the field of folklore, literature, arts, music, folk medicine, etc. It has collaborated with many departments of the state government i.e, Department of Social Welfare, Kannada Abhivrudhi Pradhikara, Dept. of Kannada and Culture, Karnataka Tanda Abhivrudhi Nigama, and many more.

- The Postgraduate Diploma in Traditional Architecture, Traditional Sculpture, Traditional Cultivation of Ragi, Traditional Horticulture, Traditional Diary Practices, Folk Epic Traditions, and many more
- The Doctoral program include Ph.D. and M.Phils
Eligibility Criteria
The admission to the various courses is decided on the basis of the entrance exam conducted by the university. The eligibility criteria for admission are available on the official website or prospectus of the university. Students are selected on the basis of a merit list in the qualifying examination by each department.
Library
The library was built in 2012 and it is named G Shampa Library of the Karnataka Janapada Vishwavidyalaya. It has more than 12000 books, 85 Ph.D. theses of folklore, various journals, magazines, newspapers in order to fulfill the academic needs of the students, and researchers.
