Mizoram University is a central university under the University Grants Commission, Government of India, and was established on July 2, 2001, by the Mizoram University Act of the Parliament of India. The President of India is the authority Visitor, and the Governor of Mizoram goes about as the Chief Rector according to Mizoram University Bill, 2007. According to the Act, the goals of the college are "to scatter and development information by giving instructional and exploration offices in such extensions of adapting as it may esteem fit, to make procurements for incorporated courses in humanities, characteristic and physical sciences, sociologies, ranger service and other associated teaches in the instructive projects of the University; to take suitable measures for advancing disciplinary studies and examination; to instruct and train labor in the advancement of the condition of Mizoram; and to give careful consideration to the change of the social and monetary conditions and welfare of the populace of that State, their educated person, scholastic and social improvement". Keeping these goals in perspective, Mizoram University has set out on different projects for scholarly and managerial advancement.
Mizoram University has changed enormously after the late move of the primary organization and some scholarly divisions to its changeless grounds at Tanhril, Aizawl. A plot of area measuring 3,958,630 m2 with rich greenery and grand slopes, rented by the Government of Mizoram at Tanhril, serves as the lasting grounds of Mizoram University.
