Gour Banga University was inaugurated by the State Government of West Bengal on 10th March 2008 in Malda. It has three faculty namely Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Commerce. This university is approved and recognized by the University Grants Commission and NAAC. It offers various UG, PG, and Doctoral level courses through its 38 affiliated colleges. Some of its affiliated colleges are Balurghat College, Balurghat Law College, Balurghat Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Dewan Abdul Goni College, Gangarampur B.Ed College, Harishchandrapur College, Kaliachak College, Kaliyaganj College, Kushmandi Government College, Malda Women's College, Raiganj Surendranath Mahavidyalaya, S.B.S. - Full-Time Master of Arts for 2 years duration in the field of Arabic, Bengali, Economics, English, Education, Geography, History, Science, Sanskrit, Political, Sociology, and Philosophy
- Full-Time Master of Science for 2 years in the field of Botany, Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, Mathematics, Computer Science
- The other courses include Master of Communication, Master of Law, Master in Library & Information Science, Ph.D., and M.Phil
Eligibility Criteria
- Admission in the UG courses is based on a merit list and candidates must have passed 12th class from a recognized board.
- Candidates seeking admission in PG courses must have a graduate degree
- Candidates looking for admission in Ph.D. and M.Phil must have a master’s degree.

The university provides a placement and training department to enhance the interpersonal skills of the students by conducting mock tests, seminars, group discussion.
