Lal Bahadur Shastri was the 2nd prime minister of India and known for his sheer involvement in the independence of India. Every year, on 2nd October, Lal Bahudur Shastri Jayanti is celebrated with great joy, respect and happiness.
Lal Bahadur Shastri was born in the year 1904, 2nd October. His birth place was Mughal Sarai and he was son of a school teacher named as ‘Sharada Srivastava Prasad’. And then his father worked as clerk in the revenue department that is located in the Allahabad city. But Lal Bahadur Shastri lost his father when he was just one year old. His mother moved to his parent house with him and his two other sisters.
From the very childhood days, he was very keen towards learning and studying and because of this he started studying in the East Central Railway Inter College. And then got his first degree from the Kashi Vidyapeeth. Due to his first degree, he was given a surname named as Shastri. Since he started to get interest in the political that were taking place all around the country, he joined the Indian national congress. After that he actively participated in the freedom for India movement like non violence and quite India movement. There he was very impressed by the ideas of the Mahatma Gandhi and also become good friend of the Jawaharlal Lal Nehru.
Just two years after he passed out as graduate, 1928 he married to Lalita devi, she was from the Mirzapur. They had six children and some of them were quite good politicians. Due to his sheer involvement in the independence movement and also working with Nehru, he was a key member in the committee that was headed by the Jawaharlal Nehru. From 1951 to 1956, he headed the railway department of the Indian and led to many types of development in the department. He was also against the cast, creed and untouchbility practices being carried in the Indian society. He also contested elections from the Uttar Pradesh and won.
His key role came in the year 1964, when Jawaharlal Nehru died. The congress party head ‘K. Kamraj’ , found Lal Bahadur Shastri to be the most suitable person to led the Indiana and fill the void that has been created due to the death of the Jawaharlal Nehru. He actively steered Indian out of the conditions that were prevailing when First India and Pakistan war took place in the 1965. Indian won that war, but during the pack Tashkent which was meant for a peace solution between the two countries, he died due to the heart attack, 1966. Although there are various mysteries related to his death like conspiracy etc, but till now, heart attack is the main reason for his death.
His famous speech ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ is still the most famous and sought after speech in India.
