Vagamon is a sleepy little hill town located on the border of Kottayam - Idukki districts of Kerala. Kurisumala Monastery
Kurishumala church atop a hill is a famous pilgrimage place. This is a monastery for Christian ascetics. Kurisumala means 'Mountain of the holy cross'. The main day of attraction is on Good Friday. Devotees come here in huge numbers during the holy week to climb the hill carrying wooden crosses. The large prayer Hall here is used for prayer and meditation. Attached to it here are a few spectacular dairy farms
Mundakayam Ghat
Situated at a distance of 8kms from Vagamon this is scenic locale known for its spell binding sunset. This region is famed for the paragliding festival held here.
Suicide point
Vagamon also has a suicide point called Moonpara - a V shaped gorge and the view of the valley from this point is spectacular.
Muruganmala
Murugan Mala is located to the east of Kurisumala. This hill houses a rock-cut temple dedicated to Lord Murugan
Thangal Hill
This is a centre of Muslim pilgrimage. There is a Durgah here which is the resting place of Husrath Sheikh Fariduddin Baba, a Sufi saint. Another attraction here is a cave.
Apart from these places one can also indulge in a number of activities like horse riding, trekking, boating, fishing, Para gliding, rock climbing etc. Vagamon is also home for a variety of unique and rare orchids, lakes and waterfalls and just a walk in the plantations and meadows is a blissful experience.
Vagamon is easily accessible by road from Cochin which is roughly 100 kms away and Kottayam which is 64 kms from the destination. There are also direct bus links to and from Thiruvananthapuram, Munnar & Madurai. The nearest airport is the Cochin International Airport which is at a distance of 120kms and the nearest railway station is in Kottayam.
