Following are the airports that have operations in Kerala State:
Cochin International Airport (COK): It is among the busiest international airports that are present in India. Around 30 Km away from the Kochi, a place called as Nedumbassery. In India this was the first airport which was built under the PPP. Around 3400m is the length of runway and surface is made from Asphalt. One helipad is also there. Over the years huge expansions plans have been carried out on this airstrip and now it spreads in a area of 4200 acres. There are various companies that are having stakes in it, but government of Kerala is the largest shareholder of it. Recently a new international terminal was made at a cost of 6 billion rupees. Apart from the domestic terminal, a separate cargo terminal is also there. A very large Perishable cargo center, which houses a cold storage, is present and it is the largest one in the country.
Calicut International Airport (CCJ): Also known as Karipur airport, it serves two major cities of Kerala-Kozhikode and Malappuram. In the 2006, it got status of being international airport. 2860 m is the length of current runway and has a surface of Ashphalt. International facilities are as per the present demands. Various international fliers like Air Arabia, Emirates have operation from this part of India. Recently AAI installed a new ‘Lead in lighting system’ for better flight operations.
Trivandrum International Airport (TRV): Among the busiest airport in India, it has been function since 1930s. It is just 3.7 Km away from the main city. It not only caters the need of passengers but for shipping industry too. Air force and Coast guard also uses this airstrip for their operations. Currently length of runway is around 3400m and has an Asphalt surface. A lot of national and international flight operators have operations here and there is a separate cargo terminal too. Visa on Arrival facilities is also provided for the international passengers.
