The Osmania University is a public state university located in Hyderabad, India, and founded in 1918 with the help of the chief Architect of Mahbub Ali Khan - Nawab Sarwar Jung. It was made and named after the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan. It is the first Indian college to have Urdu as a medium of instruction. In 2012, the college was put sixth among the Nation's Premier Universities in Humanities, Sciences and Commerce stream, which sacked the 'College with Potential for Excellence' status. The Main Campus is positioned tenth among the State Universities, as distributed by India Today. Starting 2012, the college has 3,700 worldwide students from more than 80 countries. It is especially known for its staff of Engineering and Technology, Law, Arts, Sciences, Commerce and Management divisions. Osmania Medical College was at one time a piece of the university. However, it is presently under the supervision of NTR University of Health Sciences. The University is accredited with an 'A' Grade by the NAAC and rewarded with the status of 'University with Potential for Excellence' by the UGC, New Delhi.
The affiliated colleges of the university are scattered in Hyderabad district and offer various undergraduate and post-graduate courses. The college has a facility of about 1600 sections of land (6 km²) with 300,000 students (checking all the grounds, constituent subsidiary schools and local focuses) making it one of the biggest advanced education framework in India. It is home to almost 300,000 students seeking after their higher studies in it.
