Why Swami Vivekananda Jayanti is celebrated
Well, Swami Vivekananda was born in the family of Kayastha. He was born on the 12th January in 1862, Kolkata. He was born to a family where education was prime concern, as his father Vishwanath Datta was attorney at Calcutta high court. On the other hand his mother was a pious lady, and spent most of times offering her prayers to gods. So, Swami Vivekananda got both education and dedication towards god from very childhood days.
His sheer curiosity in education and Hindu religion was waiting for him to spread them. As from very childhood he was quite intelligent and soon he acquired a vast knowledge related to society. When he grew up, he gave his thoughts regarding the Yoga and Vedanta. His work in spreading the Hindu religion and also the liberal ideas he had, are high acclaimed till date. His principals and saying are still followed on large scales. One of the most remarkable works that he had in his life was to make western world make aware about the Hindu religion. At the age of just 30 he gave a famous speech in Chicago called as “Sisters and Brothers of America” and this led sowing of seeds that would result in the spread of knowledge about Hindu religion to the rest of the world.
He was also among the major disciplines of the Saint Ramakrishna. And his major work towards making of the Ramakrishna Mission, which is still considered as the most important one in the Hindu culture. As his unique way of saying things in modern way, because of the reason that he used to roam in the western parts of the world to spread the message and saying of the Hindu religion, made him the saint of modern India. His thought regarding the youth and how they should carry and take forward their life was really something that every youth should learn about. And due to this very reason, his day of birth is considered as the youth national day. He died in the year 1902.
How People Celebrate Swami Vivekananda Jayanti
Well all over the India, various programs that are dedicated to the Swami Vivekananda are organized. In 2013, it was 150th birth anniversary of the Swami Vivekananda. Due to this special occasion country wide special seminars etc were organized on the large scale.
Since he was closely associated with the youth, lot of ceremonies and events are organized by the college students. On this day, saying of the Swami Vivekananda are recited among the crowd to spread his messages.
