The district of Tawang is the 8th least populated district in the total of 640 districts that makes up the whole of India. In the past, Tawang was the region of the Monapa people. After them, the region was ruled by the Monyul kingdom. The kingdom was later absorbed to the countries of Bhutan and Tibet. During the British Period in India History, this land belonged to the Tibetans, until the Treaty of Shimla was signed in the year 19104. The district of Tawang came into the news when the present Dalai Lama visited the place.Tawang covers only an area of 2172 sq km, with the altitude of the district ranging from 6000 feet to 22000 feet. The lower part of Tawang is the one with the populations. Tawang accommodates only 49950 individuals with a population density of just 23 individuals per sq km. The two main occupation of the people of Twang are Yak Breeding and agriculture in the lower altitudes.
