The CBSE NET examination is meant to select suitable candidates for JRF & lectureship for colleges & universities all across India. UGC conducts the NET examination twice every year- the last Sundays of June & December. The NET covers 95 subjects in total, including Humanities, Forensic Science, Social Science, Environmental Science, Electronic Science as well as Computer Science & Applications.

CBSE NET 2017 Eligibility Requirements
- The applicant must score minimum 55 percent in Master’s or equivalent test from UGC recognized institutions/universities. The cut off is 50 percent for the OBC, PWD & SC/ST candidates.
- The students who would be appearing or have already appeared in Master’s final exam (awaiting result) are also eligible for application. However, their selection is dependent on the required 55 percent cut-off (50 percent for OBC, PWD & SC/ST) in their final Master’s Degree result. In case. They fail to come up with required cut-off, the candidature would be cancelled.
- The NET candidates can only appear in subjects of Post-graduation. If the particular subject isn’t covered under NET, then he/she can apply in some related subject approved by NET.
Age eligibility for CBSE NET January 2017 candidates-
- Applicants applying for Junior Research Fellowship status should not be over 28 years by 1st January 2017.
- The OBC, PWD, SC, ST & female candidates will get up till 5 years of relaxation in age limit. The 5 years of age relaxation would be offered to candidates with research experience, provided submission of research proof.
- There is no age limit in case of candidates applying for the post of lectureship (Assistant Professor).
