Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh was founded by Dr. Harisingh Gour in 1946. The university was named after Dr. Harisingh Gour who was a Social Reformer, Patriot, Philanthropist, Educationist. Earlier it was known as Sagar University and later, its name was changed to Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya in February 1983. The university campus is spread over 1312.89 acres of land. The university has 175 affiliated colleges and is approved by the University Grant Commission. The university is a central university that provides UG, PG, and Doctoral level courses in various streams like Engineering, Science, Journalism, etc.

Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates seeking admission in UG courses must have completed 12th higher secondary from a recognized board
- For admission in PG courses, candidates must have a graduate degree in the relevant field of education
- Admissions in UG, PG, and Ph.D. courses are granted on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance exam conducted by the university
Seat Reservation
The university reserved 27% seats for OBC, 15% seats for SC, 7.5% seats for ST, 10% seats for the financially weak category, and 5% seats for physically disabled candidates.
Scholarship
The university provides scholarships to the students belonging to the economically weaker background and post-matric scholarships for ST/SC candidates.

- The university has 4 hostels for boys & 2 hostels for girls. The rooms of the hostel are provided with all the essential facilities of living and study.
- The university library is the biggest library in the state and it is called Jawaharlal Nehru Library. It has a large collection of books (more than 300000), journals, and other study materials.
