- Scheduled Tribe or ST
- Other Backward Classes if they come under the Non Creamy Layer
- Persons with Disability or PwD.
Special provisions for Reserved Category Candidates
According to rules, the SC, ST, PwD & OBC candidates would be given special 2016 JEE Main reservation provisions in several fields- ranging from age eligibility to cut-off to fees.
Age eligibility
When it comes to age limit, JEE Main has relaxed the age restriction for reserved category candidates by five years. Thus, the candidates from reserved category would be eligible to sit for JEE Main 2016 if they are born after or on October 1, 1986- instead October 1, 1991 as is the case with general candidates.
Cut off
To apply for JEE Main, the general candidates are required to achieve minimum 45 percent cut off in every subject in their class 12 qualifying examination. But, the cut off is 40 percent for the candidates from reserved categories.
Fees
As per the rules, the candidates who fall under JEE Main reservation 2016, would have to pay half of the fees compared to what is paid by the general category candidates, especially boys. Basically most of the students from the reserved category are from economically backward and the relaxation in fee is meant to smoothen their road to higher education without the stress of financial constraint.
The reserved category candidates must offer a scanned copy of their caste certificate during the online application procedure and would have to produce the original certificates at the time of counseling.
