Eligibility
The eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2016 candidates are:
- The candidate should be born after or on October 1, 1991. The reserved category candidates must be born after or on October 1, 1986. For admission to Odisha and Maharashtra candidates, the age would be considered according to admission procedure in these states through state level examination.
- The aspiring candidate must be appearing or pass class 12 examination from a recognized board with a combination of Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics with at least 50 percent marks in the core subjects.
Application form & fees
The JEE Main 2016 application form is available online through the official website of JEE Main www.jeemain.nic.in. The registration process has started on December 1, 2015 & would continue till December 31, 2016. The candidates can apply for either Paper 1 or Paper 2 or both.

Syllabus & exam
The JEE Main 2016 syllabus comprises of questions from Physics , Chemistry & Mathematics. The JEE Main 2016 exam pattern is-
Paper 1
This paper will comprise of questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. There will be 30 questions from each section and each right answer will carry 4 marks. 1/4th mark would be deducted for each wrong answer.
Paper 2
It will comprise of 3 parts:
- Part 1 is on Mathematics
- Part 2 is on Aptitude Test
- Part 3 is on Drawing Test.
Each of the examination would stretch for 3 hours. The examination would be conducted in both pen & paper mode as well as computer mode.
Examination centers
The JEE Main 2016 examination centers are scattered across as many as 125 Indian cities. Apart from India, the JEE Main exam would be held at Singapore, Kathmandu, Sharjah, Riyadh, Muscat, Dubai & Bahrain.
Number of attempts
According to latest reports, a candidate can make 3 attempts to clear JEE Main.

- Correction period –second half of 2016 January
- Admit card– 1st week of March 2016
- JEE Main exam 2016 pen and paper based mode – April 3, 2016 (Sunday)
- Computer based exam– 9th and 10th April 2016
- Answer Key & OMR Sheet would be released on – 2nd quarter of April 2016
- JEE Main 2016 result - April 27, 2016
- Counselling for JEE Main would start from - 1st half of July 2016
