JEE Main 2016 is scheduled to be held in the month of April and the online registration process has started already. Are you about to sit for the examination to secure your future as an engineer? That’s good but before you apply, check out the JEE Main 2016 eligibility criteria.
Eligibility criteria as per DOB
- You are eligible to sit for JEE Main exam if your birth date was after or on October 1, 1991.
- In regards to reserved categories (SC, ST, PwD), the age limit has been relaxed by five years. Thus, the candidates from reserved category would be eligible to sit for 2016 JEE Main exam if they are born after or on October 1, 1986.
- The DOB stated in the JEE Main application form must match the one mentioned in Secondary Board or University Certificate.
Year of appearance in QE (Qualifying examination)
- You would be allowed to sit for JEE Main 2016 if you have passed your Class 12 examination or a similar qualifying exam in the year 2014/2015.
- Candidates who would be appearing in the Class 12 examination in 2016 would also be eligible for JEE Main exam.
Eligible subject combinations for JEE Main 2016
Candidates should take minimum 5 subjects in standard 12 qualifying exam to ensure 2016 JEE Main eligibility.
The subject combinations required for Paper 1 and Paper 2 are:
- Paper 1 - Language, Mathematics, Physics & any 1 from Biotechnology, biology, chemistry & Technical vocation subject- & any other subject. The candidates must secure minimum 45 percent cut off in each of these subjects. The cut off is 40 percent for the candidates from reserved categories.
- Paper 2 - Mathematics is a must alongside 50 percent cutoff in total including 5 subjects.
Qualifying Examinations
- Final examination of class 12 (under 10+2 system) carried by a recognized state/central Board like CBSE, ICSE etc.
- 2-year Pre University Examination or Intermediate exam carried by a recognized University or Board.
- Senior Secondary School Exam carried by National Institute of Open Schooling & candidates must have at least 5 subjects to be eligible.
- Final exam of 2-year course of Joint Services Wing of National Defence Academy.
- Any Board/ University/Public School exam in India or foreign nation recognized as equal to 10+2 system by AIU (Association of Indian Universities).
- H.S.C. vocational exam (for admission in IITs)
- Diploma (minimum 3 years duration) recognized under AICTE or state board of technical education.
