The district of Palakkad is bordered by the districts of Malappuram, Thrissur. Coimbatore district (Tamil Nadu) also forms a border with the district. The main administrative centre of the district is the city of Palakkad. The district is famous as the ‘Granary of Kerala’. In the past the district was known as Palallattussery district. The district has links that takes us way back into the Palaeolithic age whose signs are scattered all over the district. In the medieval times, the district was also ruled by the Pallavas and the Chera Dynasty. The district covers a land area of about 4480 sq km with the capacity population of 28 lacs individuals approximately. The density of population of the region is approximately 625 individuals. The district also has a male to female ratio of more than one. The district is mainly a rural area with the majority of the population having agriculture as its main occupation. There are some industries that are also found in the district.
