The district of Ernakulam is one of the most important districts of the state of Kerala. The district is the home to the largest Metropolitan region of the state named Greater Cochin. The district is of great importance to the state because of the fact that the district produces the highest amount of revenue for the state. The district is more often than not known as the commercial capital of the state of Kerala. The district of Ernakulam is bordered by the districts of Thrissur, Idukki, Alappuzha, Kottayam . The state of Tamil Nadu and the Arabian Sea also borders the district. In the past the region of the district has been ruled by the Arabs, Portuguese, Dutch, British, etc. The closeness to the sea makes it one of the best locations for industries to thrive.
