The district of Pathanamthitta is the last added district to the state of Kerala. The district is situated at the southern region of the state of Kerala. The district is bordered by the districts of Kottyam, Kollam, Alappuzha, Idukki. The state of Tamil Nadu also borders the district in the eastern side. The town of Pathanamthitta is the main administrative centre of the district. The name of the district refers to a bunch of houses along the banks of a river. The region was once ruled by many foreign powers. The district of Pathanamthitta is one of the rare landlocked districts of Kerala. The district does not have any coastline but is still among the top when it comes to tourism. The district is famous for the Pilgrimage spots that it has. The area under the district is around 2637 sq km with a population of 11 lacs individuals. The main occupation of the people of the district is agriculture.
