The district of Jagatsinghpur is located in the eastern coastal regions of the state of Orissa. The district is one of the most important administrative districts of the state of Orissa. The city of Jagatsinghpur itself is the main centre for administration of the district. The district being a coastal district does depend a lot on the waters as fishing is one of the most important occupations of the people of the region. The district is also famous for the deep water sea port named Paradip which is now an important region for investments from outside. There are many upcoming industrial projects for the district. The district of Jagatsinghpur covers a land area of approximately 1759 sq km. The district holds in a population of about 10.5 lacs individuals with a population density of 602 people per sq km. The district of the Jagatsinghpur had a death toll of about 10000 people when a cyclone hit the land in the year 1999.
