The district of Khorda which is also known as the Khurda district is one of the most important administrative districts for the state of Orissa. The main centre for the execution of all the administrative works is the city Khorda itself. The district came into being in the year 1993 with lands scrapped of from the Puri district and Nayagarh District. The district was the last free capital of the Kingdom of Orissa before being completely annexed by the British forces in the year 1803. The district also has a great historical importance to the state of Orissa. The district of Khurda covers a land area of approximately around 2811 sq km with a population of about 22.4 lacs individual. The population density of district is approximately around 799 people per sq km. The district has a small number of industries which are mostly small scale ones. The district also has a lot of places that adds to the tourist destinations of the state.
