The district of Nuapada came into being on the district map of India in the year 1993 when land was scrapped of the district of Kalahandi on the grounds of Administrative inefficiency and used to create the new district of Nuapada. The district of Nuapada is located in the western region of the state of Orissa. The district is bordered by the districts of Bargarh, Kalahandi and Balangir. The district of Nuapada has the main administrative centre in the city of Nuapada itself. The Eastern Ghats run extensively through the district of Nuapada. The district of Nuapada covers a land area of approximately about 3407 sq km with a population of about 6 lacs individuals. The district of Nuapada has a population density of about 157 people per sq km. The majority of the area of land under the administration of the district is unde3r thick forest with Sal tree the most common tree of the region.
