The district of Nalgonda finds its name from two Tamil words Nalla meaning ‘Black’ and gonda meaning ‘Hills’ i.e. Black Hills. The name Nalgonda was given by the Bahamani King, Allauddin Bahaman Shah. The district spans up to an approximate area of 14200 sq km with the population of 34 lacs individuals approximately. The present of Nalgonda district is much more interesting than its past. Nalgonda along with Warangal fuelled the rebellion for a separate Telengana state. As many as 6 rivers flow through the district aiding the agriculture facilities. The main food crops of the district are Paddy, Millets, Oil seeds, and Pulses. The district also has quite a few industries to its name. In spite of this, the district is listed in India’s 250 most underdeveloped states. The saris of the region are famous all over India. Few places of Interest in the district are Yadagiri Gutta, Nagarjuna Sagar, Bhuvanangiri Fort, Panagal, etc.
