The district of Gurdaspur is one of the northern districts of the northern state of Punjab. The district of Gurdaspur has the city of Gurdaspur itself as the main administrative city of the district. The district was literally founded by a man called Guriya Ji after whom the district is named. Although the region is very close to the legendary Indus Valley Civilisation, very little is known about the past of the district of Gurdaspur. It is said the Great ruler named Alexander came up to the banks of the River Beas from where he returned back. The district of Gurdaspur covers a land area of approximately around 2610 sq km with a population of about 21 lacs individuals. The district of Gurdaspur has a population density of approximately around 810 people per sq km. The district is of extreme importance to the state as well as India because of the fact that the district shares quite a long international boundary with Pakistan.
