The district of Jalandhar is one of the most important administrative districts of the northern state of Punjab. The district was divided with the purpose of creation of the Nawanshar district which also took in areas from the district of Hoshiarpur. The district of Jalandhar has its main centre for administration in the city of Jalandhar itself. The district is a part of the southern region of the Doab which lies between the rivers Beas and Sutlej. The district also has a huge army base camp in the city of Jalandhar Cantt. The district of Jalandhar covers a land area of approximately around about 2632 sq km with a population of about 21.8 lacs individuals. The district of Jalandhar is having a population density that round up to around 830 people per sq km of the total administrative area. The district like the other parts of the state has huge differences in the summer and winter temperatures.
