The East Godavari District is located in the north eastern region of the state of Andhra Pradesh. Previously this district was a part of the Rajahmundry district of Madras. Later on the Rajahmundry district of Madras was divided into two districts: The East Godavari District and The West Godavari District. The Main city of the East Godavari District is Kakinada. The East Godavari District is bordered by The Vishakhapatnam District, Khamam District, West Godavari District and the Bay of Bengal. Just Like the reast of the Deccan Region, the district was under the rule of the Great Nandas and the Mauryas. After the Decline of the Mauryan Empire, empoire’s like the Cholas, Kakatiyas and the Delhi Sultanate ruled the place.The district is hilly in the western region and the eastern side is primarily the plains. Agriculture is the major occupation of the people. With the discovery of Natural Gas in the region, the industrial prospect of the district has received a great Boost. The East Godavari District is tthe 2nd most populous district of the State.
