The Krishna District is named after the River Krishna which is the fourth longest river that flows through the land of India to the Bay of Bengal. The district is bordered by Khammam District, Guntur, Nalgonda and the West Godavari District. Machilipatnam is the headquarters of the district with Vijayawada the biggest city and the thriving commercial city of the region. The History of the district rolls back to the period around the time of Before Christ. The Pallavas, The Cholas and the Chalukyas were the prominent empires that ruled the region. The Krishna District covers an area of 8727 sq km with its most of the land under the Hills. The hills provide good tourist spots for the localities. The rivers Krishna, Muniyeru, Tammileru and Budameru flow through the district with the basins of the rivers making is suitable for agriculture. But the district is primarily dependent of the numerous industries that it has. The district accommodates approximately 45 lacs individuals making it the 34th most populous district an all over India.
