The district of Vishakhapatnam is extremely important to the state of Andhra Pradesh because of the administrative efficiency of the district. Formerly Vishakhapatnam was referred to as Vizag. The main city of the district is the city of Vishakhapatnam itself! The history of the district dates back to the BC era when the land was ruled by the mighty Emperor Ashoka and thus came under the high influence of Buddhism. The district of Vishakhapatnam was formed in the year 1979, when it was split from the district of Vizianagaram. The district is not that fond for agriculture as it is for Industries.
