Sri Potti Sri Ramulu Nellore District or better known as the Nellore district is famous all over India for its paddy fields. The city of Nellore is the main administrative centre of the district. Previously the district was known sa just Nellore, but the Government of Andhra Pradesh changed its name to Sri Potti Sri Ramulu Nellore District. The district played a very important hand in the formation of the state and the up lift of the Telugu language. The region saw its greatest heights when it was under the Mauryan Ruler Ashoka. Later the region was also ruled by the Cholas, Chalukyas, Pandyas, the Nawabs, etc. The district has an area of 13076 sq km that holds a population of approximately 29 lacs individuals. The district of Nellore is famous for its rice and its dominance over aquaculture. Rice and sugarcane are the main crops of the district. The closeness of the sea has helped it to built sea routes that have developed its economy to a great extent. Nellore district is also famous for its literature, architecture and education opportunities.
