The district of Kadapa was formerly known as Cuddapah District. The district houses its headquarters in the city of Kadapa. Just like tmany other districts of the state, Kadapa also has traces pointing to the early cavemen of the pre historic times. The district also has its links with Buddhism and Jainism. During the medieval times, the region was ruled by the Nizams and the Vijayanagar Kingdom. The name Kadapa is derived from a Telugu Term that means the threshold. The district has a population of approximately 28 lacs with a population density of 188 individuals per sq km. The size of the Kadapa District is very much equal to the Prince Patrick Island of Canada. There are six rivers that flow through the district: Penna, Chitravathi, Kunderu, Papagni, Sagileru, Bahuda and Cheyyru. This region of Andhra Pradesh is highly rich in minerals. Apart from a great Industrial Prospect; the region also has great soil to support Agriculture. Few attractions of the district are Tallapaka, Gandi, Gandikota, Rayachoti, etc.
