The district of Sabarkantha is located in the north – eastern region of the state of Gujarat. The district has its main administrative centre in the city of Himatnagar which is located at a distance of just 80 kms from the city of Ahmedabad. The district of Sabarkantha is bordered by the state of Rajasthan and the districts of Banaskantha, Mehsana, Panchmahal, Kheda and Gandhinagar. The district plays a very important role in the administration of the state of Gujarat. The district covers a land area of approximately 7400 sq km with the density of population amounting up to 328 individuals per sq km of the area. The district is notified as the largest producer of Milk in the state. There are many Raw materials that are found in the region but the district does not have the industries to utilise them. The district falls under the list of the 250 most backward districts of the region which is presently aided by the Backward Regions Grant Fund Program of the government of India.
