The district of Dharmapuri has the historical town of Thakadoor which is presently termed as the city of Dharmapuri. The city is also the main administrative city of the district of Dharmapuri. The district came into official existence in the year 1965. The district of Dharmapuri was one of the very important parts of the legendary kingdom of Kongu Nadu kingdom.
