The district of Perambalur has the city of Perambalur itself as the main administrative district of the state of Tamil Nadu. The district is one of the prime administrative districts of the state of Tamil Nadu. The district is basically located in the central part of the state of Tamil Nadu. The district came into being in the year 1995 when land was taken away from the district of Tiruchirappalli. The districts bordering the district are Namakkal, Tiruchirapalli, Thanjavur and Cuddalore. The main river flowing through the land of Perambalur is Cauvery which is of extreme importance to the district.
