The district of Theni is primarily divided into two geographical areas namely the hilly areas and the normal plains which is favourable for vegetation. The district is located on the western part of the state of Tamil Nadu. The district has the city of Theni as the main headquarters for the district for the purpose of controlling the administrative works. The district was initially a part of the district of Madurai which was later divided to create the district of Theni in the year 1996. The district has the Western Ghats running through the lands.The district of Theni covers a land area of approximately around 2889 sq km with a population of about 12.4 lacs individuals. The district has a population density of about 433 people per sq km of the total area covered by the district. The district has many places of attractions for the tourists from not over India only but the whole world.
