The district of Virudhunagar is one of the land locked districts of the state of Tamil Nadu. The district is located in the southern part of the state. The district has its main administrative headquarters in the city of Viurudhunagar itself. The district came into being in the year 1987 when the old district of Ramanathapuram was divided into the present Ramanathapuram district, Shivaganga district and Virudhunagar district. The district of Virudhunagar was previously known as Karmavirer Kamarajar District. The district of Virudhunagar is bordered by the districts of Shivaganga, Theni, Ramanathapuram, Tirumneliveli, Tuticorin and the state of Kerala. The district of Virudhanagar covers a land area of approximately around about 3445 sq km with a population of approximately about 19.4 lacs individuals. The district has a population density that amounts up to a rough amount of 454 people per sq km. The district also has a lot of places that attract a lot of attention of the tourists.
