The district of Pudukottai is located along the central – eastern coast of Tamil Nadu. The district is more commonly known as ‘Pudhugai’ among the local people of the state of Tamil Nadu. The district is bordered by the districts of Thanjavur, Ramanathapuram, Tiruchirapalli and Sivaganga. The district is also bordered by the Palk Strait along the eastern coastal line. The district came into being in the year of 1975 with rejected lands from various other districts of the state of Tamil Nadu. The district is the least urbanised district of the state. The district of Pudukottai covers a land area of approximately 4663 sq km with a population of about 16.1 lacs individuals. The district has a population density of approximately about 348 people per sq km. The district is basically has an agrarian economy and depends a lot on it for maintaining its economy. The district has 1015 females compared to 1000 males.
